Joshua Daniel Hartnett was born on July 21, 1978 in San Francisco,
California. He has three younger siblings: Jessica, Jake, and Joe. Shortly after
he was born, the family moved to St. Paul, Minnesota where he grew up. His
mother then divorced his father, Daniel, and moved back to San Francisco, so
Josh was raised by his father and stepmother, Molly.
In 1996, Josh graduated from South High School in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and
then he attended the State University of New York in Purchase, New York for a
short period. He soon moved to Los Angeles and in April of 1997, Josh was
offered the role of Michael Fitzgerald in the television series Cracker.
In 1998, he appeared in his first movie, Halloween H20: 20 Years Later
(1998). Some of his more memorable films include O (2001), Pearl
Harbor (2001), Black Hawk Down (2002) , and 40 Days and 40
Nights (2002). Josh also started a production company, Roulette
Entertainment, with Elden Henson.
Josh Hartnett was engaged to childhood sweetheart Ellen Fester, in fact they
purchased a $2.5 million mansion together in Minneapolis, but in February 2004,
the two decided to separate.
