Kari Samantha Wuhrer was born on April 28, 1967, in Brookfield, Connecticut, to
Karin(a payroll officer) and Andrew (a former police officer turned car
salesman). Kari has three siblings. Kari began studying acting at age 13, and
headed to New York City to do the rounds of auditions. In 1983, she was signed
to the Ford's Model Talent Division and appeared in several commercials, most
notably Clairol. She also began performing in theater productions. As a
teenager, her nighttime ritual was sneaking out of her house to sing with a band
at various bars. Kari was the youngest member of the punk rock band, Freudian
Slip. Kari has two nicknames: "Dawaywe" (as in: The Way We Were) and "Crash"
(She has had quite a few fender benders).
After a role in the film Fire with Fire (1986) Kari
Wuhrer landed a job on MTV as the VeeJay and as a cohost of the show Remote
Control. Kari soon moved on to other television projects. She brushed up on
her acting skills while studying drama at NYU and the Royal Academy of Dramatic
Arts in London. She has also taken graduate classes at Columbia University. Her
biggest career break came when she was signed to play Maggie Beckett on the
sci-fi series, "Sliders" from 1997-2000. Her most notable film credits include
Higher Learning, with Tyra Banks; The Crossing Guard, with Jack
Nicholson; Anaconda, starring Jennifer Lopez; and the 1998 comedy
Kissing a Fool. Kari Wuhrer was also signed to a record deal by Rick
Rubin. Her debut album, "Shiny," released in 1999, produced the
successful single, "There's a Drug." Kari will also be returning to regular TV
work in 2005. Kari landed the role of an FBI Agent in General Hospital and her first episode will be aired on February
3rd.
In the late '80s, Kari dated rock singer Dean Davidson of Britny Fox. Kari's
first marriage was to punk rock musician Daniel Salin in 1995, but it ended in
divorce four years later. She married James Scura in 2003 and their son, Enzo,
was born in January 2004.
