Liliane Rudabet Gloria Elsveta Sobieski was born on June 10,
1982 in New York City to Jean, a New York City painter, and Elizabeth, a writer.
Her father is a descendant of Jan III Sobieski, king of Poland between 1674 and
1696, and he actually has a title that he does not use. Leelee was raised in
both France and New York's Upper West side, and grew up with her brother Roby,
born in 1989. Both children attended private school. When Leelee was 12 years
old, she was discovered by Woody Allen's casting agent who was scouting in her
school cafeteria.
When she was 13, she landed a starring role in the tv movie
Reunion (1994). After several more films, in 1998, Leelee landed her
breakthrough role in the summer hit Deep Impact opposite Elijah Wood. In
1999, Leelee received her first Emmy nomination for Joan of Arc (1999,
TV). At the same time, she was also working with Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman and
Stanley Kubrick on Eyes Wide Shut (1999). Since then she can be seen in
such films as Never Been Kissed (1999) with Drew Barrymore, Here on
Earth (2000) with Josh Hartnett and Chris Klein, and L'Idole (2002).
Look to see Leelee again in Heaven's Fall coming out in Fall 2005.
