Sophie Marceau (née Sophie Maupu) was
born on November 17, 1966 in Paris France. She grew up in Gentilly, a Paris
suburb, with her father, a truck driver. At 14, she auditioned for a teen movie,
La Boum (1980). The movie was a big success, and Sophie returned to make
La Boum 2 (1982). Afterwards, she bought back her contract with movie
studio, Gaumont, for one million francs, in order to have more control over her
career.
Sophie has gone on to win many awards. In 1983, she won the
Cesar (French Oscar) for Most Promising Actress for La Boum 2. Five years
later, she was elected Best Romantic Actress for Chouans! (1988) at the
International Festival of Romantic Movies, Cabourg. And then, in 1994, she
earned the award for Best Theatrical Revelation for Eurydice (1991). In
the United States, Sophie Marceau is best remembered for her role in
Braveheart, as Princess Isabelle. Sophie has appeared in a long list of
American films, including becoming a Bond Girl in The World is Not Enough,
opposite Pierce Brosnan.
Sophie Marceau's first child, Andrzei Zulawski, was born on
July 24, 1995. Her second child with Jim Lemley, Juliette, was born on June 13,
2002.
